Ebooks vs paperbacks- The Pros and Cons
Are Ebooks just a fad or are they here to stay?
Ebooks. The amazing virtual book.
It is a book, but it isnt...not really....or is it? You can read it, but can you grasp it in your hands, can you actually feel the weight of knowlege in your palm? Can you feel the steady rhythm of a book as it gradually nears to completion or hear the slight whispering of pages turning as each additional page lures you into the depths of another world?
If you appreciate a books weight in your hand, then you may not be drawn to the concept of the ebook. But like it or not, this supposed fad looks like its here to stay. Though the concept of a book without pages may seem foreign, dig a little deeper into the benefits of an ebook and you may forget all your forgone conclusions as to just how you read your books!
So here are 5 positive reasons why reading an ebook is just as good or better than an actual paperback book:
1. Ebooks allow for paperless reading. Yes, for those of you tree-huggers bent on saving our world from human destruction, this means No Trees Destroyed in order to read your book! Think of all the trees saved.. Just be happy and say yes to ebooks.
2. Ebooks can be read in a variety of gadgets. Computers. Ebook Readers. Even Cellphones such as the Apple Iphone have programs to accommodate reading of a digital book.
3.You can store a library of books, in the space of a single storage chip. If you have a space problem and dont have alot of room to occupy physical books, then ebooks may just be for you. Have thousands, yes thats right- thousands- of books at your fingertips. You can store them in a simple storage chip, or on your computer hardrive, or cellphone memory. The possibilities are endless even when the living space is not!
4.You have access to the latest ebooks 24-7. This simply means you can download books from your computer using ebook stores with selections of thousands of books to browse through, all from the comfort of your home or even while sitting at the nearest bus stop. You may even, while using the Amazon Kindle, access books anywhere, anytime and anyplace due to Whispernet Technology (which uses cellphone type technology to browse and download ebooks, emagazines, and e-articles at any given time and place as long as you are within the USA) Amazing conveniences of not having to drive to the nearest library or bookstore to get the latest and greatest fiction read. A new concept that is very appealing..
5. Ebooks can be read in a multitude of formats. This makes it possible to download and read ebooks from a variety of different sources. And some programs can be used to change the format of an existing ebook so you may read it from a different device.. And some sites may even give access to books for free, meaning you may not have to spend a dime to read thousands of books (classics and others)All this, and just with the click of a button. Impressive.

Conclusion
Based on the current reading trends, it looks like ebooks are here to stay. And it looks like that just may be a good thing. While it always feels wonderful to hold a book in your hand, the convenience of a digital book seems to take away some of the edge. For those with bad eyes, you even have the benefits of the modern ebook reader. The latest ones have a technology called E-Ink Technology which actually prints out the words onto the screen, allowing for super clear and easy reading- even in direct sunlight! So with the negatives associated with ebook reading slowly being whittled away, It looks like Ebooks are not just a reading fad, but perhaps our reading future.

Where are the cons??? There are lots of cons. First and foremost is that you can't share purchased ebooks as with print books. That's awful! Electronic ebook readers break when you drop them or immerse them in water, but you can read a wet book when it dries. It matters a lot when you forget your reader on the train or bus, but no big deal when you forget your paperback, newspaper or magazine. There are so many other reasons to avoid ereaders. Why are there none in this article? Ebooks are a big waste of money.
i totally agree with betty, it also takes away the the tradition of reading from a paper book. These "e-books" are eventually going to kill off all the libraries, stay away from the E-BOOKS!!!
@betty
1. you can share books - just download on the other
reader/computer using you account, or loan them your reader
2. read a wet book when it dries? if it's not torn and the ink didnt run (which is likely)
3. why would you forget it on the bus or train unless you are careless?
